Ideally you want to aim for about 59 characters a line (2.5 alphabets), but you really don’t want to go below 10pt for readability.ĭefault Paragraph – Character style: Georgia Pro, 11pt Properties: Align to baseline, Kerning -2pt. You font size will be dependant upon you line length. Though feel free to use your favourite Serif Font. Some fonts seem to run together a little in italic which makes it harder to read. I use Georgia Pro Font as it still reads clearly in Italic without the need to alter the Kerning (space between the letters). Choose the font you want to use for your book. You need to start by editing Character Style. Ideally you baseline grid should be 1.5x your font height. You can change the width of the baseline grid from the File menu. I start by turning on the Baseline Grid under the View menu of the main tool bar. The below is a screen shot for the margin layout for a 6×9 paperback. On start up you get a page set up screen. The next thing you’ll need is Scribus which is a free typesetting program, which can be downloaded here. I search on your publisher’s website should give you a guide to page layout.Īmazon’s book template’s can be found here. Of course that will vary depend on the size of the book you mean to print.
